NASA Langley-Virginia Space Grant Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Internships
NASA Langley Research Center in partnership with the Virginia Space Grant Consortium is offering the GIS Internship Program to provide student support to the NASA GIS Team. Internships are open to high school, community college, undergraduate, and graduate students majoring in the fields of geography, technology, civil engineering, and other areas with an interest in developing their skills in spatial data technology in support of NASA’s mission. Positions in summer, fall, and spring are available. Application deadline for summer is March 24, 2008. Additional deadlines for fall and spring.
Virginia Aerospace Science and Technology Scholars (VASTS)
The Virginia Aerospace Science and Technology Scholars is open to eligible Virginia high school juniors. Selected students will have the opportunity to work with engineers, scientists and technologists on planning a human mission to Mars. Scholars will complete online coursework in Spring '08 and attend a 6-day residential Summer Academy at NASA Langley Research Center, all expenses paid. Application deadline is March 14, 2008.
2008-09 VSGC Scholarship and Fellowship ProgramFemale Grad Fellow in lab
The VSGC Scholarship and Fellowship Program annually awards approximately $300,000 through four scholarship/fellowship programs to students pursuing higher education at Virginia Space Grant universities (College of William and Mary, Hampton University, Old Dominion University, University of Virginia, and Virginia Tech) and Virginia Community Colleges.

Virginia Tech Flag Flies on Shuttle Atlantis -- Tech Students Attend Launch and Participate in NASA Education Forum
Last June, NASA astronaut Colonel Pat Forrester, United States Army Retired, who was raised in Springfield, Virginia, flew with a custom Virginia Tech flag aboard Space Shuttle Atlantis.  The Virginia Tech flag flew 5.8 million miles over the 14-day mission of STS 117 Atlantis Flight.  Five Virginia Tech students and other representatives from Virginia Tech also were participants in a special NASA Education Forum surrounding the launch at Kennedy Space Center on June 8, 2007.

FAA Design Competition for Universities
FAA Airport Design Competition for Universities This program gives individual students or teams under the guidance of a faculty mentor the chance to address a number of technical challenges relating to airport operations and maintenance, runway safety/runway incursions, and airport environmental interactions. Students can win cash prizes for outstanding work and the opportunity to present their work in a professional forum. Students are also effectively linked to airport operators and experts who can help them assess the efficacy of their proposed designs/solutions.
Langley Aerospace Research Summer Scholars Program (LARSS)
The Langley Aerospace Research Summer Scholars (LARSS) Program is managed for NASA by the Virginia Space Grant Consortium (VSGC) under the auspices of the National Institute of Aerospace (NIA). The LARSS Program provides paid internship opportunities year round for eligible students during spring, summer, or fall sessions. Participants gain exciting hands-on research experience while working side-by-side with NASA’s finest scientists and engineers who serve as mentors at NASA Langley Research Center.
